Festivals & Events

If music gets your heart racing, sport gets your blood pumping, food gives you cravings or wine gives you tingles down your spine, make sure you visit the Echuca - Moama websites calendar of events.

Festivals and events are held throughout the year, celebrating the best of the best in a number of areas. For action-packed excitement, the Southern 80 ski race held each February is not to be missed; the grueling 80km event is the world's premier water skiing race and is not for the faint hearted.

The following week, indulge in the soulful tones of jazz and tantalise the tastebuds with some mouth-watering temptations at the Riverboats, Jazz, Food and Wine Festival. Well-known virtuosi have performed at the festival, which features jazz on riverboats, street corners and parks. If you miss the jazz weekend, make sure you are at the Winter Blues Festival on the last weekend in July. High Street is transformed into a miniature village and blues music is performed at a number of venues throughout the historic precinct.

If wedding bells are set to ring, get down to the wharf on the last Sunday in May for the Wharf Wedding Expo. Couples planning their wedding flock to the extravaganza, where demonstrations and displays feature everything you need for a wedding.

The Echuca Steam, Horse and Vintage Rally, held each Queen's Birthday long weekend, provides a range of activities and entertainment, including historic re-enactments and Clydesdale horse and steam engine displays among the 700 exhibits.

The Heritage Steam Festival takes place in October and sees the night sky lit up by the River on Fire fireworks display.

If sport is your thing, don’t miss a rare chance to take on a paddlesteamer. The annual Sweat vs. Steam event pits individual against vessel.

The Elmore Field Days are held over three days in October. More than 40 sites exhibit farm machinery and rural products, as well as hosting irrigation and dairy industry displays.

The Echuca Racing Club hosts 11 meetings a year, with some big ones on Melbourne Cup Day, New Year's Eve and Easter Monday. The biggest one of all is the Echuca Cup Carnival, held throughout the Labour Day long weekend in March. Gunbower also comes alive with the sound of hooves racing, with the Gunbower Cup in January.

Harness racing fans are not forgotten, with a number of Echuca meets throughout the year. Elmore meetings and the Kyabram Pacing Cup are also held at Echuca Harness Racing Club. The year ends on a high as the Red Cross Murray River Marathon passes through town.
